August has arrived, and as the whole of Europe officially starts their summer vacation, inMenorcawe’re bearing our second week of scorching temperatures in the mid to high 30ºs.  It’s perfect beach weather for those lucky enough to be on holidays, and it’s tempting to spend all your free time cool in the sea. But it’s important to also hydrate the body through alimentation and skin care, as well as water.

Here are some quick and easy reminders for how to stay hydrated this summer:

DRINK FLUIDS Perhaps stating the obvious, but how many of us have reached mid afternoon before realizing the only thing we have drunk all day is a cup of coffee first thing in the morning? Although pure chilled water is the best refreshment for your body and the best anti aging treatment for your skin too, other refreshments count to reach the recommended 8 glasses of 240ml or 2 litresa day. Remember to limit your alcoholic drinks, especially in the sun and heat.

EAT WATER RICH FOODS Summer salads and wide selections of fruit make this task easy. Melons and Watermelon are in season right now as well as stone fruits like plums, peaches and Nectarines. If you are not partial to a typical fruit salad, why not settle for a warm ripe tomato salad, simply chop into pieces, sprinkle with salt and dribble with olive oil. Either way starting your meal with a salad or fruit or as a snack is the ideal way to boost your daily hydration and vitamin intake too.

TREAT YOURSELF WITH HYDRATHERAPY

By swimming in the sea: Apart from the healing properties of the salt and minerals in the seawater, a daily dip in the sea improves the circulation and relaxes muscles. Ideal for relief from chronic disorders and skin problems. Or by using contrasts of water, both interchanging temperatures and pressure. This can be done at home in the shower changing between hot and cold water once or twice a week. Alternatively for maximum results at aspacircuit which includes a wide variety of hydrotherapy options combined with hydro massage to alleviate tension whilst cleansing and hydrating the skin.

CARE FOR YOUR SKIN WITH HYDRATING CREAMS

Nourishing the skin from the outside on a daily basis is as equally important as drinking water to nourish the skin from the inside. With greater exposure to the sun and the sea during the summer it is vital to choose an extra hydrating lotion to replenish and repair the skin at the end of the day.

One last tip: The key is also to manage your daily activities to not over exert yourself during the hottest part of the day.

After all, there is a reason that ‘siesta’ is between 2 – 5pm each day, so follow the lead of the locals and spend the hottest time of the day resting in the shade! The second benefit to a mid afternoon kip is it will give you the energy you need to make the most of those hot august nights ahead.

Enjoy!
