Menorca Audax: audacity or Viriato

Many people in our team and even some of our clients might have wondered why our hotel is called Audax. If by any chance you have studied Latin at school, you might remember that Audax means bold, audacious or daring.
But also, if you are a history enthusiast, you might know that Audax was a historical character.

You probably remember the story of Viriato, the Lusitan warrior who faced the Romans in Numancia, near Soria at the heart of Spain. This historical hero, died at the hands of three of his own lieutenants: Audax, Ditalcon and Minuro. Unfortunatly, Audax and his two comrades could not get the price of their betrayal. The Roman Consul told them that “Roma does not pay traitors” so that he saved his blood stained gold.

In a nutshell, the name of the hotel Artiem Audax could be related to the audacity of a brave hero or the cowardliness of a traitor. We will leave such a choice to your own taste and imagination.
