Perfect, let’s get started on the route around Ciutadella de Menorca!
Strolling around the typical streets of the old town, in one of the stretches along Ses Voltes we come to the magnificent Menorca Cathedral rising over the square.
In a Gothic style, the slender monument also conserves the remains of all the architectural styles it has witnessed throughout Menorca’s history dating back to the 13th century. Savour the evocative organ recitals in the summer. Beautiful! The history of our people reflected in the beauty of its stonework and stained-glass windows invite us to connect with past eras, admiring the excellence of the building. You can also visit the city’s museum, with its interesting metalwork, paintings and liturgical garments on display.
A few minutes away is La Plaza del Borne, right in the heart of the city.
The Borne Obelisk presides 22 metres high over the square which is surrounded by some admirable emblematic buildings such as the Salort Palace and the Torre Saura Palace, along with the Born Theatre and the City Council, with its charming vantage point where you can enjoy unique views over the Port of Ciutadella.
The square is the gateway into the old town, and it takes you into a maze-like route of alleys and porticoes, where café terraces and clothes shops blend together with the magnificent historical buildings and stately houses.
Make the most of your walk to visit Menorca’s craft shops which you will find in the area, where the traditional Menorcan craftsmen and women work in jewellery making, sculpture, costume jewellery, leather, etc.
Sant Nicolau Castle
There’s no rush, take a seat on one of the rocks there. Watch the boats coming and going in the port. The calm sea. The sea breeze, the sound of the rolling waves and the salty scent of the sea... This well-conserved elegant defence tower from the 18th century protected the island from numerous sea attacks in the past.
An ideal place to enjoy an unforgettable sunset. Save the moment forever taking a photo. Can you see Mallorca in the distance? Put your camera down for a moment. Experience the gift nature offers.
Ciutadella Municipal Museum
Nearby, in the historical Bastió de sa Font building, a remnant of the city’s walls, the Municipal Museum displays a collection of ethnological and archaeological articles which help us to understand Menorca’s history better.
Go back 3000 years in time thanks to the magnificent collection of palaeontological remains, jewellery and everyday objects.
