Menorca has five beaches awarded with a Blue Flag, an official seal of quality for the best beaches of the Spanish coast.

How would you describe the perfect beach? Maybe clean, with crystal clear waters, safe tides, fine and pleasant sand, services in the surroundings ... The island has not one but many of these, and several of them have been recognized as the best beaches in Menorca with the Blue Flag distinctive.

The "Blue Flag" is one of the most special prizes a beach can receive as it certifies its excellence and safety. It´s a type of seal of quality that must be renewed every year and is granted by the Association of Environmental Education and Consumer (Adeac, in Spanish).

The main criteria for a beach to wave the famous Blue Flag are:

  • The cleanliness of its waters: free of industrial discharges or wastewater.
  • The presence and proper maintenance of bins and containers.
  • The presence of adequate and clean bathrooms in the area.
  • The presence of certified lifeguards during the bathing season.
  • Accessibility

Therefore, this seal is a good reference to find the best beaches of the Spanish coast and to enjoy a pleasant and safe space with services in the area.

Menorca maintains the same blue flags on its beaches in relation to last year: a total of five distributed throughout its coast. In addition to the incredible landscapes of the Menorcan beaches, there is also the factor of quality and safety when deciding where to sunbathe this summer.

If you are looking for the top beaches in Menorca and you value the presence of a blue flag, you should opt for one of the following.

Best beaches in Menorca

Cala Galdana

Cala Galdana, on the south coast, is one of the most beautiful and extensive beaches in Menorca, with an extension of more than 400 meters in length and 40 meters in width. Despite being in a semi-urban area, the tranquility and environment in this place are a real treasure. It´s surrounded by cliffs and a dense pine forest that contrasts with the intense blue of its waters.

Here you will find ARTIEM Audax, our hotel that overlooks Cala Galdana, and enjoy the sound of the waves and the sea breeze that refreshes summer nights. It´s the ideal place to visit Menorca and enjoy all the activities that can be practiced in the area: snorkeling, hiking, kayaking, yoga ... and, of course, simply laying under the sun for hours. Our Sports&Nature team is in charge of showing our clients all the possibilities offered at Cala Galdana to enjoy an active holiday and in contact with nature.

Son Bou

Also on the south coast, Son Bou is considered one of the best beaches in Menorca. In addition to its amazing landscape, the cliff that borders the east side of this cove is covered by the remains of a necropolis from the Talayotic era and a Paleo-Christian basilica.

Son Bou is the longest beach on the island, almost three kilometers long covered of fine white sand. Its waters are shallow, clean and calm so it is an excellent option to spend a quiet day under the sunrays.

Cala en Porter

Cala en Porter enjoys a privileged landscape: two large cliffs embrace the fine white sand bathed by calm blue waters. It is also one of the quietest in the south of the island.

Once there, it is worth visiting the Xoroi Cave which is located on one of its cliffs and becomes the perfect viewpoint to enjoy the beauty of the Mediterranean. In the caves, it is also possible to have a drink and enjoy a fantasy sunset.

Binibeca

This beautiful beach is located in the southeast of Menorca, in the municipality of San Luis and only 10 kilometers away from Mahon. Although it´s small (barely 200 meters) it´s surrounded by a thick pine forest that offers a very pleasant shade for the hottest days of summer.

It´s important to keep in mind, however, that it´s a very popular destination during the summer so it´s advisable to get there early in the morning to avoid crowds.

Punta Prima

Punta Prima is a small and beautiful beach where you can still enjoy the fishermen's shelters, which locals used to store fishing equipment. Its fine white sand made the English baptize it as "Sandy Bay"; nevertheless, that´s not the only nickname this beach has received, as some also call it Playa del Aire, in honor of the homonymous small island located at a short distance from the coast. Thanks to the presence of this small islet, Punta Prima presents a breathtaking landscape.
